The Heart Behind Our Recipes: A Family Story

At Curry in a Hurry - New Generation, our food is more than flavors and spices. Every dish carries the story of the women who raised me, guided me, and taught me the meaning of love and community. My mom, my aunt, who I call my second mom, and a dear aunt who I also call mom, each hold a very special place in my heart. Their recipes are the soul of our restaurant and the reason why every bite tastes like home. As a Bangladeshi-owned Indian restaurant in Minneapolis, it is an honor to share these recipes with our community and keep their traditions alive.

My Amu's Kitchen: The Root of Tradition

Some of my earliest memories are of my mom’s kitchen filled with the aroma of spices. She has always cooked with heart, creating flavors that felt like comfort after a long day. One of her specialties is whole chicken vindaloo with potato, a dish that balances spice, heat, and home-cooked love. That same dish now inspires the chicken vindaloo with aloo we proudly serve at our restaurant in Minneapolis.

During Ramadan my mom would prepare zau, a traditional rice porridge, which always carried a sense of warmth and togetherness after long days of fasting. It is a dish we hope to bring to our restaurant this coming Ramadan so our guests can experience the same comfort our family has cherished for generations.

My Second Ami: An Aunt Who Raised Me with Love

My aunt has always been more than an aunt. She is my second mom, and she raised me with the same love and care as my own mother. Her specialty is white chicken, essentially the korma, which has become one of our most beloved dishes on the menu. Rich, creamy, and made with patience, her chicken korma reflects everything she taught me about care through cooking.

Her daal is also unforgettable. Slow-cooked until the spices are deep and full of flavor, it has always been one of those dishes that brings people together. Whenever our guests search for authentic daal near me in Minneapolis, I know they will taste the love and generosity she put into her recipes.

My Ma: A Mother in Every Way That Matters

There is another woman in my life who I have always called mom. She may not be my mother by blood, but she has filled my life with guidance and warmth. She is a dedicated Bengali caterer who has spent years perfecting traditional Bengali meals. Her Bengali-style daal pakora is to die for, and I am proud that it is part of our menu. When guests order it, they are not only enjoying an appetizer but experiencing the depth of her culture and the passion she has for food.

A Family of Moms, A Restaurant Full of Memories

When you dine at Curry in a Hurry you are not just enjoying Indian food in Minneapolis. You are tasting authentic family recipes that have been passed down through generations of strong women. From my mom’s chicken vindaloo with aloo to my second mom’s chicken korma to my aunty’s Bengali daal pakora, every dish tells a story of love, resilience, and tradition.

As a Bangladeshi-owned Indian restaurant, our mission is to share these flavors with our neighbors and to honor the women who made them possible. Food is love, and every meal is a piece of our family shared with yours.

To my Amu, my second Ami, and my Ma, thank you for giving me recipes that are more than food. They are legacies and traditions that I am proud to serve to our community every day.
