If you ever ate at Passage to India on Lake Street, the flavors at Curry in a Hurry New Generation may feel familiar. That is because the same family that shaped that restaurant years ago is now here on Franklin Avenue, bringing those beloved recipes back to life with a new spirit and fresh energy.
Back then, my father was young and full of drive. At Passage to India he created a place where families could gather around tables filled with biryani, tandoori, and curries. He did it all. He welcomed guests at the front door, cooked in the kitchen, and made sure every meal left with care and pride.
Life took different turns after Passage to India closed. My father worked behind the scenes for others, still cooking, still carrying that love for food, but no longer running his own place. Even then, the dream of opening something again never left him. During the pandemic, when so much felt uncertain, that dream grew stronger. He wanted to bring back the flavors that so many people remembered, and he wanted to do it as part of our family once more.
In August of 2025, we made that dream a reality together. Curry in a Hurry New Generation is more than just a restaurant. It is a continuation of his story and a chance for me, as his daughter, to carry it forward. Our menu combines the recipes that older guests recognize with new creations like our vegan lassi that make sense for today’s diners. It is tradition meeting innovation, family history meeting fresh beginnings.
When guests come in and say, “This food reminds me of a place I used to go years ago,” I smile, because I know exactly what they mean. They are tasting my father’s work, his recipes, and his passion. And now they are also tasting a new chapter that belongs to both of us.
For our family, Curry in a Hurry New Generation is not just about serving food quickly. It is about cooking everything fresh, making sure that when a plate goes into your hands, it is hot, flavorful, and made with care. It is about community, about inviting people to stop by and chat even if they are not here to buy anything. Most of the time, when we are available, we will not let anyone leave empty handed.
This is our journey. From Passage to India to today, our family has always believed in serving food that brings people together. Curry in a Hurry New Generation is the next chapter, built with love, built for the community, and built to last.
